Games Magazine selects:Pearl Fisher
Pearl Fisher was chosen by Games as one of the 100 best new games for the year 2009 in the Family Games category. Here's John McCallion's write-up from their December 2008 "Buyer's Guide to Games":
PEARL FISHER (1 to 3 players)
Designer: Ferenc Pálinkás
Play three innovative memory games on the square or hexagonal grid. One game has nine pearls in each player's color in play. Initially, move a friendly pearl in a straight line over vacant or occupied spaces, and cover it with a shell. With all nine shells in play, turns consist of moving a shell straight to cover the last pearl moved. Move a friendly pearl uncovered by the moved shell, otherwise, the opponent removes his uncovered pearl and moves another of his. Win by removing your last uncovered pearl.
In the other games, win by collecting the most pearls when play ends, with colors (two or three) being neutral. In one game, collect a revealed pearl matching the one covered; in the other, you must uncover a pearl of a different color. Good strategists can also win these intense games by moving a pearl the opponent cannot cover. JJMcC
