
In 2005, Kadon established a special annual award to be presented to the individual or organization that created the best new pentomino or polyomino idea of the year. Each award is a unique custom design.
In 2019, the award was won by George Sicherman for his dissection puzzle of 9 pieces that could form all 12 pentomino shapes and all 5 tetrominoes. His award was a framed solution of the letters G and S, one in each side of the display tray. One set of pieces allowed the award to be displayed with either side to the front. The S side (the initial for Sicherman and Shardinaires-9) was further engraved with the title and name. George verified with his faithful program that the G (for George) has only one solution, and the S has three.
The display has tortoise-shell acrylic on the S side and marbled orange on the G side, with pearlized blue for the pieces. It is a one-of-a-kind art piece.
