The Rainbow Cannon

5…JUST ONE THING _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ SMILE, ADMIRE AND ENJOY.

“There's just one thing I want to know,” Rudolph said, looking at Glen. “How did you get the cannon out of Rainbow Arcs and back across the world to the Gray Way?”

“We just appeared there, like we do here,” he replied.

“I, I didn't think you could do that,” Olivia said, trying to think about appearing somewhere when they hadn't seen the area before. “I figured you had to see a place to appear there.”

“We thought so, too,” Gina said, “but we just winged it, hoping it would work.”

“Yeah, we considered that before walking the whole way here,” Yorick said, “but we wanted to be sure we'd get here and not, say, some place in absolutely nowhere.”

Gerry: “It was a gamble, but we wanted to make rainbows so bad, we had to try.”

Gary: “So now are you ready to let us take the Rainbow Cannon back?”

Grant: “Yeah, absolutely. We didn't know what we did was so important, or that without our clouds and rain there wouldn't be any rainbows.”

“Now you do and we appreciate it,” Bunny said.

George: “And we appreciate what you do, too. Thanks again.”

Isabel: “Sure thing. And hey, maybe we'll start seeing each other more often than never.”

Gus: “I'd like that. I'm sure we all would.”

“It's always good to be around those who make you feel happy,” Violet said.

Hugging her, Gabriella agreed: “Yes, yes, it certainly is.”

With that, the Rainbow Big Flops started out from the Gray Way, their eyes, hearts and minds set on Rainbow Arcs. They stopped before they reached the border when they started thinking about a very important thing – taking their cannon with them. How were they going to make the journey halfway around the world with it?

“Hey, wait a minute,” Rudolph said. “If the Grays could just appear in our city, perhaps we could, too, from here,” he continued, looking in the eyes of his six colorful friends.

“Let's try it,” Olivia said, itching with curiosity to see if it would work.

“Okay, but how?” Yorick asked.

“How what?” Gary said.

“How do we take the cannon,” Bunny said, picking up on Yorick's train of thought.

“Um, well, I... oh, I think I have it,” Isabel said, remembering what the Gray Days said about how they got to and from Rainbow Arcs before they popped out of sight until time for the next rainy day.

After motioning to her friends to join paws in a circle, just like they would if they were about to form a rainbow cannonball, Violet said: “Okay, everyone. If we concentrate on making the cannon appear back in Rainbow Arcs, it should make the trip right along with us.”

They counted in unison: “1... 2... 3!” At 3 they all opened their eyes and saw that not only was the cannon back in Rainbow Arcs, so were they. After many furry low-fives (done not with their hands but with their big floppy feet), the group celebrated being back in their hometown and having the Rainbow Cannon again.

It wouldn't be time for another rainstorm for a few days, so they thought they'd go hang out with the Gray Days and finally get to know them after many years beyond what anyone could remember.

While they were playing together and just enjoying life, they all took time to look around at the world beyond and what they had right there in front of them – soft, green grass; a peaceful blue sky; rich, colorful flowers and plants and... one another.

Knowing that what they did all but made the world go 'round – and a beautiful place to live – the Gray Days and the Rainbows now felt better than they ever had before.

The Rainbows were always happy with their work; but after they met the Grays on their own turf, they both knew where they stood in the world. One made the rain, the other the rainbows.

Speaking of which, they're about due for one right now. So, look to the skies, watch for the clouds and wait for the rain. And when you see it, be sure to thank Glen, Gina, Gerry, Grant, George, Gus and Gabriella – a group of happy rabbits called the Gray Day Big Flops (on account of their gray fur and their big floppy ears and big floppy feet).

Once it passes, go outside and look high, look far and look long for the rainbow. It'll be there, somewhere, and it was made for you and anyone else who wants to find it. And when you see it, be sure to thank Rudolph, Olivia, Yorick, Gary, Bunny, Isabel and Violet – a group of happy rabbits called the Rainbow Big Flops (on account of their colorful fur and their big floppy ears and big floppy feet). Smile, admire and enjoy it with a close friend.
