One of the most gorgeous and amazing interactive programs we've encountered is AlienTiles, created by Cliff Pickover and Cam Mckechnie.
A 7x7 grid of jewel-like squares with exotically flowing colors may start out all one color. By clicking on any square, you change the colors in intersecting rows to the next color in the cycle. With four colors to cycle through, you soon end up with a scramble of all the colors. Even if you stick to only symmetrical moves, the kaleidoscope-like variations display unpredictable combinations and complexities.
You get several design challenges to achieve, tracking the number of moves you take. Beat the best score and win fame.
And since we're so big on pentominoes, our challenge to you is to form any of the 12 pentominoes within your pattern, either with one centered or with several symmetrically placed. See samples below. Can you create the others? Send us your best solutions and win a small prize.
