Fractured Fives

FRACTURED FIVES

DESIGNER:  Kate Jones
Five wooden squares present many edge-matching challenges. One side of every square shows adjacent parts of two pentominoes at the center of each edge. Start with forming each pentomino by joining the squares and having neat pentominoes created at all adjacent edges. Further challenges include building the "P" pentomino to show all 12 pentominoes on the edge.

The squares' other sides illustrate portions of knotted rope. You must again form pentominoes in various ways, but this time with all rope ends connected. —RHK (11/12) [Date refers to GAMES issue with full review.]

Games Magazine reviews:
Fractured Fives

Fractured Fives was reviewed in Games in the November 2012 issue. Here's Robin King's write-up in a puzzle round-up section:
FRACTURED FIVES
(1-2 players)
DESIGNER:  Kate Jones

Fractured fives: After more than 25 years of presentation in limited editions only at private puzzle parties, these five wooden squares that present many delightful edge-matching challenges are now available from Kadon Enterprises.

One side of every square shows adjacent parts of two pentominoes at the center of each edge. Can you, for example, arrange the squares in such a way that all joined edges form only complete, single-color pentominoes? Or build the "P" pentomino while simultaneously showing all 12 complete pentominoes?

The squares' other sides illustrate portions of knotted rope. Can you again form pentominoes, but this time with all rope ends connected? A game for two is included, which we recommend as an ideal introduction to the possibilities.
