Martin Samuel in his element
Martin Samuel in his element

Martin enjoys the freedom of the sea and air. For 20 years he was also a professional drummer and songwriter. His lyrics are witty, poignant, clever, and literate. If you order a copy of the album, Eclipse, you'll see what we mean. Below is a view of Martin and his drums.

Several of his game designs were licensed by other companies, so you may see them in stores:

  • William Woo of Sunnywood signed three 2-player abstract strategy board games — Hijara, Mozaic and Malaika — to be manufactured in their Hong Kong factory and marketed by their Chicago office.

  • Dean Helfer of Channel Craft picked up Rhumb Line to complement his nautical-look game collection and special-ordered a family game for 2 pirates called Dead Man's Dice.

  • Pat Duncan of Great American Puzzle Factory snapped up Lucky Seven, a compelling (read addictive) game of competitive solitaire for 1 or more players using 7 coasters. Martin had designed the game on coasters in a restaurant in Zurich!

  • Yvan David of Family Games published Quirky, an aptly-named 3-player board game; Triplexity, a brain-bending (mind-numbing) strategy game of complex simplicity that evolved from our very own Six Disks; and Flippit, an educational word game with cards you'll flip over!

  • Ulrich Tiemeyer of Giseh Verlag produced Zambezy, a bag-full of fast-flowing fun with the playing grid burned into the game board with a branding iron.
