COMBINATORIXTM From unity to complexity: how forms combine and grow. This set was four years in development. It is a fine resource for tessellations and explorations, plus 17 multi-player games. A geometry lab for home or classroom, Combinatorix contains 512 wood tiles in all (and yes, you really need at least that many for some of the projects). Squares, equilateral triangles, hexagons, and isosceles right triangles have 1" unit sides, are 1/4" thick for easy handling, and are supplied in four colors. The set includes three large vinyl game grids and 3 workbooks for competitive, solo and cooperative activities, all in a sturdy wood chest, 26x14x3", that's finished like fine furniture by a master craftsman. Protective velvet cover included. For 1 to 27 players, ages 6 to adult.

Limited edition, only while they last
Guest Appearance! There are 50 convex and 40 concave tiles called Veks and Kays. Their angles fit together strangely. Each tile is made of a triangle and a quadrilateral fused together and has a colored pip in each section. Ed had them made of bakelite in China, and they have a wonderful size and feel, like the best dominoes or mah jongg tiles, with smooth rounded edges. Here's a closeup of them. The Veks are white and the Kays are eggshell. Inside the striking-looking cardboard box is a 9-sided leatherette holding case, 13" across, which is exactly the size of one of the tilings. A leaflet provides a dozen shapes to solve, and the box bottom has detailed rules for two games plus some solitaires. More activities can be found on Ed's website, as more discoveries are being made continuously for this exciting and exotic tiling system. For ages 8 to adult. |
